Thirty-five students from all grade levels, K-5 meet each Thursday from 2:30pm - 2:45pm to collect and empty recycling totes from the school. Many weeks, the dumpster is filled with recycling materials that would otherwise go to a landfill.
Students are involved in on-going projects that are sponsored by Green Up Our Schools. In its 3 year history Green Team has purchased all recycling totes for Woodglen Elementary, competed nationally in the Waste Assessment competition with schools as far away as California, winning the competition, and $250 for the least contaminated recycling matter!
Green Team also introduced the 3-pump rule (only pump the paper towel dispenser 3 times to save paper), and have collected re-usable lunch bags to further reduce amount of plastic bags that are disposed of in land-fills. Stay tuned for more projects from the Green Team. Thank you students and staff for supporting The Green Team!
