Thirty-five students from all grade levels, K-5 meet each Thursday from 3:00-3:15pm to collect and empty recycling totes from the school. Many weeks, the dumpster is filled with recycling materials that would otherwise go to a landfill.
Students are involved in on-going projects that are sponsored by Green Up Our Schools. In its 10 year history Green Team has purchased all recycling totes for Woodglen Elementary, competed nationally in the Waste Assessment competition with schools as far away as California, winning the competition, and $250 for the least contaminated recycling matter!
Green Team also introduced the 3-pump rule (only pump the paper towel dispenser 3 times to save paper), and have collected re-usable lunch bags to further reduce amount of plastic bags that are disposed of in land-fills. Stay tuned for more projects from the Green Team. Thank you students and staff for supporting The Green Team!
