Message from Administration

Dear Wildcat Families,

Happy Friday everyone!

You may not know this, but we have an amazing PTO.  They are interested in refreshing our social media presence on both Facebook and Instagram.  In our conversation this past Wednesday evening, we started discussing how we want to increase our parent involvement, and that starts with communication.  So, we would like for you all to complete this short survey, so that we can get a better understanding of your communication preferences.  Thanks in advance for completing this survey , it will greatly help us define our next steps!

Cold Weather Entry Procedure

As we continue to adjust our procedures to best meet the safety needs of our students, we are reviving the cold weather early entry protocols during the following times:

  • When the temperature is below 20 degrees or includes wind chill factors that makes the temperature feel like it's below 20 degrees.

  • Pouring rain

  • Measurable snowfall (snow is actually falling)

We will send out a text message to all families at 7:00 a.m. notifying them that it will be an early entry day.  Students will be allowed in the building through the MAIN ENTRY ONLY at 7:50 a.m. Students will not be allowed in the building until that time, so please don’t drop them off earlier than 7:50.  Students will then be directed either to the cafeteria to get breakfast or to the hallways where their classroom is located.  We will ask students to sit outside the door of their classroom in the hallway until the bell rings.

 Safety message continued

Please, do your part to prevent a tragedy from happening.

We want to emphasize the following safety reminders:

  • Please do NOT cross the street outside of the cross walk.  When the road conditions are difficult, cars do not have the ability to stop quickly, and can easily slide.

  • Please do NOT wave your child to cross the street in between the cross walks.

  • Please DO follow the speed limits and put plenty of distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

  • Stop at the stop signs located at the crosswalks.

Help Wanted:

Crossing Guard

You too could look as cool as our current crossing guard volunteers-please sign up here to sign up as a Cross Guard  if you’re interested!  The pay isn’t great, but you’ll have our eternal gratitude for helping keep our students out of harm's way.

Come read with us!

If you’re interested in helping us by popping in for a few minutes to read to a student, practice sight words or math concepts with them for a quick 10-15 minutes, please let us know.  We are really working to strengthen foundational skills with some of our students and we’d love your help in doing that.  Please sign up Reading Volunteers

Valentine’s Day

Staying with Woodglen’s current practice for Valentine’s Day, all classrooms will host a Valentine Exchange on February 14th.  This typically does not include a party, it does however, promote kindness and a demonstration of care and appreciation of everyone in the classroom.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent teacher conferences are coming up on February 16th.  This is your opportunity to hear about the academic progress your student is demonstrating at the midpoint of our school year.  All staff are digging into their individual student progress data, and make specific plans in order to help your students grow and achieve.  You can support your student by ensuring they complete their homework when it’s assigned, by promoting reading each night, either  read to or have students read independently for 20 minutes per day, and by encouraging them to practice their writing by ensuring they have access to paper, pencil, markers and crayons.  Supporting students is a priority here at school, and we thank you in advance for helping support your student’s learning at home.

Thank you for entrusting us with your children each and every day.  It’s been a pleasure getting to know them better every day.
