My name is Janice Carrel and this year will be my 33rd year teaching. This is the start of my 28th year in the district. I currently split my time between 2 schools this year. Mornings I am at Woodglen Elementary and in the afternoons I am at Skyview Elementary, alternating Wednesdays for a full day. I am always available through email or by phone. I am excited to be teaching back in person this year and I am thoroughly enjoying the work I am doing with these awesome kids.
A little about me: I grew up in Buffalo, New York, got my BS degree from Miami University, Ohio, my Masters in Special Education from the University of Florida, Gainesville, and my Specialists in Education degree from the University of Colorado, Denver in Administration and Teacher Leadership. During my time teaching in Adams 12, I have taught at Thornton Middle, Stukey Elementary, Skyview Elementary, and Woodglen Elementary. My roles have included special education teacher and student achievement coach.
My classes are small groups of students working on specific skills to reinforce and support the regular classroom curriculum and fill in any areas the student is may be missing knowledge in. I feel I really get to know students in this environment and really enjoy working with them.
Some of my favorite things are baking, Star Wars, the Buffalo Bills, spending time with my friends and traveling. I have lived in Colorado for the last 27 years and love it here. I have also been blessed with a rare opportunity to teach as an exchange teacher. I have traded jobs and houses with a special education teacher from Australia (twice 1997 and 2016) and from Scotland (2003) to experience education from a different perspective. I feel blessed to work and live in such a great place.
